I visited Riyadh recently to interview for a local investment bank and conduct some dillgence on the city. I am Pakistani by birth and have spent about 15 years in New York City. Riyadh is nice..sort of. Some malls look quite impressive the first time you visit them. The feel of the city reminds me a bit of Karachi (sans affluence and multiple social restrictions). Did not know any expats living in Riyadh so I could not get a sense what it would be like to live there and raise a family of three boys aged 7 to 1 year. More importantly my wife has worked since I have known her..thought life adjustment would be a tad difficult. I ended up not taking the offer but if you are inclined to make a living in ME I would say that Riyadh is an okay place to be if Dubai is not an option. Cant say I will visit again.

I am surprised to see Riyadh is such a beautiful city. Looks pretty advanced in technology excellent infrastructure and some good shopping malls. Of course Dubai is like heaven. I've always enjoyed my visits there.

Good blog.

Almas, it is quite a big city, but a tad restricted. If you're planning a trip this side, do visit Dubai - a place I'm sure you'd enjoy. I miss Dubai so much! *sigh*
